Physical Therapy
Pediatric physical therapists (PTs) work with children and their families to assist each child in reaching their maximum potential to function independently and actively participate in home, school, and community environments. PTs use their expertise in movement, motor development, and body function to apply clinical reasoning and develop individualized plans of care to achieve patient and family goals. Pediatric PTs treat children with a variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal, neurologic, and genetic as well as children post-injury. PTs assist children and their families through any of the following services:
• Developmental activities
• Movement and mobility
• Strengthening and range of motion
• Motor learning
• Balance and coordination
• Recreation, play and leisure
• Assistive technology, orthotics, and prosthetics
• Tone management
• Posture, positioning, and lifting
• Cardiopulmonary endurance
• Pain management
